MoonPay executives allegedly transferred $250,000 to Nigerian scammers by mistake.
According to a report by The Block on July 14, the latest documents from the U.S. Department of Justice indicate that Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO of the crypto payment company MoonPay, and Mouna Ammari Siala, CFO, may have become victims of a fraud case, transferring over $250,000 USDT to a Nigerian scammer. The scammer impersonated Trump’s inauguration committee co-chair Steve Witkoff, using a cleverly designed deceptive email address (replacing the capital letter "I" with a lowercase letter "l") to carry out the scam. The Department of Justice documents show that the wallet involved has been confirmed to be registered under Ehiremen Aigbokhan in Lagos, Nigeria, and Tether has currently frozen approximately $40,000 USDT. As of the time of publication, MoonPay has not yet responded to this incident.
