As a Web3 newbie, I recently went through a comical learning curve. When I first encountered a decentralized Wallet, I was attracted by an enticing activity and enthusiastically transferred all my Spot assets from the exchange to the Wallet. However, things did not go as smoothly as I had hoped.
The activity requires the use of USDT or USDC, which prompted me to exchange Bitcoin for USDT. Later, I realized that tokens on different blockchains are not interoperable and that extra fees need to be paid for cross-chain conversion. At first, I didn't pay much attention to these details.
The real trouble occurred after I lost hundreds of yuan and planned to withdraw the remaining funds from the Wallet. Frustratingly, I found that the remaining funds were insufficient to cover the fees for purchasing enough Ethereum (ETH), which is necessary to transfer out the funds. This resulted in my funds being completely locked in the Wallet, rendering me unable to perform any operations.
This feeling is simply hard to put into words - not only did I lose money in a single day, but I also 'locked' my assets. As a Web3 newbie, this is undoubtedly a costly lesson. This experience made me deeply realize the importance of fully understanding the various operational details and potential risks before entering the Web3 world.
For other Web3 newbies, my experience may serve as a valuable warning: be sure to fully understand the different blockchains, tokens, and fee structures before taking any action. Manage your digital assets carefully to avoid falling into similar predicaments. Although this experience was frustrating, it will undoubtedly become an important lesson for my growth in the Web3 world.
